October 30, 2017 – Late to the Halloween Party (OOTD #148)

What? You mean to tell me Halloween is over?

Ah yes, the downsides of posting your blogs on a delay. See, I take my pictures of my outfit a few days before I write the actual blog post about it – that way, I have time to reflect upon the day, and I’m not stressed to immediately write a blog about a day that’s not even over yet. It’s also helpful in case I don’t manage to get my photos done until later in the afternoon.

So far, it’s worked pretty well. With some exceptions, I’ve managed to get a blog posted on this website almost every day for the last few months (I’ve yet to have a perfect month though…November goals?) The pitfall of this strategy though, is that holidays like Halloween pass and I don’t have a topical blog that I’m able to post for the event.

That’s particularly unfortunate when I have an outfit themed around the event – like, for example, this spooky and low-key emo outfit I wore the day before Halloween. See, now that it’s November 3 and I’m posting about the outfit, it seems weird to invoke any Halloween imagery or talk about my excitement for the holiday since it’s already passed. But that was what was on my mind on October 30 when I was wearing the outfit – so do I talk about my October 30 Halloween vibes, since that’s the day that I wore the outfit, or my November 3 not-Halloween vibes, since that’s the day I’m posting the blog?

Or maybe I can just talk about the conundrum of posting my blogs on a delay and avoid the issue altogether. That should fill up space so to that I don’t have to deal with my problems.

That will be slightly problematic for when I have to post my October 31 blog tomorrow though…

September 11, 2017 – Petal to the Metal (OOTD #109)

(Is…is that pun an acceptable title? I debated about it for a while and I ultimately went for it because I couldn’t think of anything else…but I’m still not sure. After you’re done reading this blog, you’ll have to leave me a comment below to say if you got it or not.)

I think I’ve found my new favorite photo location on campus.

In these shots, I’m right outside South Dining Hall, which is perhaps the only not golden-beige brick building on campus – instead, it’s made of exotic reddish-brown brick. As I’m sure you know, red bricks are extremely rare – I don’t know if I’m ever even seen a red brick before in my life. So obviously, SDH is the greatest photo location in the world, case-closed.

Okay, so the brick is hardly worth getting excited about (well, maybe it is, as it’s the only red brick building I’ve seen here – though I never thought I’d say typical red brick was exciting…), what’s really nice here is the landscaping.

Check out those beautiful red flowers. Gaze in awe of their non-golden-beige-brick-ness.

For real though, what Notre Dame lacks in their buildings’ exterior color, they make up for in some really nice flowers and plants. If you ask me, that doesn’t entirely make up for how everything here is basically the same color…but it helps.

Unfortunately, flowers don’t last forever, and they – and the bursts of color they provide – will be gone in a few months. Hopefully, we’ll get some nice autumn leaves though, and from there, we’ll get some more color. Maybe?

In the meantime, expect more photos of me next to flowers.

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next one with more updates on my life here at Notre Dame. Don’t forget to check me out on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr! For business inquiries, shoot me an email at lensembledujour@gmail.com!

July 30, 2017 – Lime Yours (OOTD #56)

Yeah…okay, I didn’t come up with that pun.

If you stole my phone right now and checked my Google search history, you would find “lime puns” among the first results.

Look, it’s hard work trying to come up with clever blog posts every day!

The truth is, I don’t even like limes as a fruit. They’re sour and kind-of bitter, and limeade will forever be second place to lemonade in my heart. But what limes lack in tasty flavor they make up for in a beautiful, rich color that absolutely everyone can wear.

I’ll admit, when I first saw this shirt in Banana Republic, I was hesitant. It reminded me of pea soup, which isn’t really my favorite, and I didn’t see it being a flattering color on me. Still, I decided to try it on, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it looked lovely on my skin – and I’m convinced it looks just as lovely on every skin tone.

If you’ll remember, this pea-lime color was quite trendy a few years back, and it hasn’t really gone out of style since. Why? Because, like I said, I believe just about everyone can wear it. For instance, my skin tone ranges from a deep tan in the summer to a pale beige in the winter, and I have no problem wearing it regardless of season. It’s vibrant but won’t overwhelm pale alabaster skin and saturated enough to not wash out dark chocolate skin; it’s a universal pleaser.

My point – I just really like this color.

The rest of the outfit is pretty simple – just some leggings, black boots, a necklace, and my favorite black sun hat. Some days are like that though, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

In other news, I’ll be leaving the country in a few days! Only two more shifts of work to make it through and then I’m free. I haven’t even begun to pack – I’ve been so bad with the procrastination. Ah well, maybe it’ll be like the time I flew to New York and I didn’t finish packing until about four hours before I left. That was an interesting time.

That’s it for today! I’ll see you in the next one. Don’t forget to check me out on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr! For business inquiries, shoot me an email at lensembledujour@gmail.com

June 7, 2017 – Taking Pictures in Public Is Kinda Awkward (OOTD #38)

It’s not easy being a fashion blogger.

First off, you don’t get paid, really, unless you have a huge following. That’s really not a big deal to me, because I love blogging whether I’m paid or not! It’s just a hobby for me that helps me de-stress.

My second complaint, though, is that it’s just really awkward taking pictures of your outfits in public.

Seriously, if you want to be a fashion blogger, be prepared for a lot of judgmental glances when you’re in public. I’m not tall or glamrorous-looking enough to pass for a professional model, and my photographer is usually just a friend or family member with an iPhone, so it must be weird to people when I’m standing at the mall posing like I’m Gigi Hadid.

My advice? Wear sunglasses. If they can’t see your eyes, their judgmental stares can’t hurt you!

For example, today I went to work with my mother, and I decided to do my photos at an old twisty staircase at the side of her office building. This was all fine and good, until someone decided to come down the stairs! It was a nurse from one of the medical offices that was in the building. It was definitely a weird encounter, but I just remind myself that the person will probably forget about the weird narcissistic teenager posing for photos within a few seconds and then go on with their life, and that thought usually makes me feel better.

On to today’s outfit: it was a fairly simple one at heart. A denim chambray shirt, slacks, and plain black booties. The fun here was in the teardrop-shaped rhinestone bedazzlements on my shirt and the emerald green of my pants. Sometimes, outfits don’t have to be complex to be cute.

That’s all for today! I’d like to give a huge thanks to the 125ish of you who have followed this blog in the last month; it really means a lot to me! ❤️

June 6, 2017 – Wearing a Sundress Under a Heavy Jacket Makes This Outfit Seasonally Appropriate, Right? (OOTD #37)

I’ve said this before, but the weather is really not the most important factor when I’m considering what to wear. FullSizeRender 54.jpg

So what it’s 80 degrees out and humid in Kentucky today? I live in an air conditioned building! We as humans have evolved beyond bowing to the will of Mother Nature!

So the truth is, I picked out this outfit about two months ago, when I was still in school, and for one reason or another, I never actually got around to wearing it. Thus, it sat in my closet, lonely and unworn, until school ended and summer began and it was no longer seasonally appropriate. It’s not that warm, actually, like I mention in the title, I am wearing a thin sundress underneath. Then again, I did layer a knit hoodie and a thick black blazer over top, so it also wasn’t the most comfortable standing outside in the sun doing this shoot for today either.

In short, once I was done taking these photos, I stripped down to just the sundress.

What do you think? Do you ever wear outfits for the sake of fashion, even if they’re not the most appropriate for the season? I’ve definitely worn my fair share of sweaters in the summer and shorts in the winter, and to me, the discomfort is worth it. I definitely get it if you don’t agree though!
